In a bid to modernize teaching methodologies and enhance learning outcomes, the Lagos State Government, through the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), has commenced a two-day capacity-building workshop focused on equipping teachers with skills to create and maintain technology-infused classrooms.
The workshop, held at the Teaching Service Staff Development Centre (TSSDC) in Owutu, Ikorodu, is targeted at over 300 teachers on Grade Levels 10-12. It aims to integrate digital tools into teaching practices, ensuring educators are well-versed in contemporary learning techniques.
Declaring the workshop open, TESCOM Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, emphasized the need for teachers to adapt to the evolving education landscape. She noted that the training, themed “Creating and Maintaining a Technology-Infused Classroom for Public Secondary Teachers GLs 10-12”, is designed to expose educators to modern digital technologies and innovative classroom methodologies.
“In today’s 21st-century education system, applying digital technologies in classrooms allows students to learn using cutting-edge mobile devices and the internet,” Peregrino stated. “Teachers must stay updated on technological advancements to facilitate student engagement and enhance learning experiences.”
She reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to continuous teacher training and retraining to address the dynamic challenges of modern education. She urged participants to go beyond the workshop by actively seeking knowledge to remain relevant in their profession.
Speaking at the event, TESCOM Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Adebopo Oyekan-Ismaila, encouraged teachers to embrace digital transformation and leverage technology to improve student performance.
“You must not be left behind in the digital age,” she stated. “This training will equip you to lead change in the classroom and adopt global best practices in teaching.”
The workshop, which began on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, will conclude on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, with a communiqué summarizing key takeaways and action points for implementing technology-driven education across Lagos State secondary schools.
