The Office of Education Quality Assurance of the Lagos State Ministry of Education has begun safe school clearance visits to public and private schools.
This, according to the Head of Public Affairs, OEQA, Mr. Olaniran Emmanuel, is to ensure that the schools are safe to remain open for academic activities.
He stressed that the OEQA had earlier mandated public and private schools in the state to register online on the agency’s website.
Speaking during the visit to Corona Day Secondary School and Primary School, Lekki, the Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni said, “The visit was based on the clearance request of schools received upon successful online submission of all required safety plans. The state government has put measures in place to ensure compliance to COVID-19 safety protocols which will help reposition the state’s educational system to fulfill the T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda of the governor on education and technology.”
In another development, OEQA in collaboration with the Ministry of Health has trained OEQA Evaluators, Proprietors of Private Schools, Principals of Public Senior and Junior Secondary Schools, and Head Teachers of Public Primary Schools in the state on safe school protocols.
Speaking during the virtual training for Head Teachers of Public Primary Schools, Seriki-Ayeni commended participants for expressing keen interest to improve their knowledge on safe school protocols.
She said, “The safety of students, as well as teaching and learning, continues in Lagos State Schools, is of the uttermost concern of Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The decision to train the stakeholders on Safe Schools amidst Covid-19 pandemic is to ensure that students and teachers continue to strictly adhere to these measures.”
