KWASU Management Addresses Student Protests, Claims of Examination Venue Change “Unwarranted”

The Management of Kwara State University (KWASU) responded to the recent protest by students of its Study Centre at the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), labeling the demonstration as “unwarranted” and fueled by “mischief makers” intent on undermining the integrity of the upcoming examinations.

The university firmly rejected claims made by the management of CAILS that they were not consulted regarding the decision to change the examination venue, describing these assertions as “baseless” and “mischievous.”

The statement emphasized that the public should be aware of the relationship between KWASU and its external locations for the Sandwich Degree Programme, which include CAILS and Imam Hamzat College of Education. “These two institutions are not affiliated to Kwara State University. Rather, they are Study Centres of the University for the Sandwich Degree Programme,” the statement clarified, asserting that the students are fully under KWASU’s administration and that the university is not required to seek authorization from CAILS for its decisions.

The KWASU Management explained that the choice to centralize the examination venue was made to uphold the sanctity of the examination process and ensure standardization in evaluation. This decision was communicated to students during an orientation exercise conducted by the Institute of Education (IOE) on October 2, 2024.

“The venue communicated to the students is the KWASU Conference Centre, located behind Ayoka Petrol Station, along old Jebba Road, Agric area, Ilorin,” the statement noted, adding that this information was provided nearly two weeks prior to the examination, contrary to claims that it was announced just three days before.

To dispel any doubts, the university’s registrar, Dr. Kikelomo W. Sallee, reiterated, “Kwara State University will not compromise the quality of any of its processes, nor will the University be swayed by propaganda peddled to coerce it into deviating from its stance on ensuring the quality of its products.”

The examination for the Sandwich Degree Programme will proceed as planned at the KWASU Conference Centre, and students are urged to take note of this directive.
