Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq has announced the inauguration of the Governing Council for the Kwara State University of Education (KWSUED).
This milestone, he noted, marks another pivotal step in the evolution of the institution, which is a crucial initiative of his administration.
“This morning, I inaugurated the Governing Council of the Kwara State University of Education (KWSUED), marking another step in the evolution of the institution, which is an initiative of our administration,” the governor stated.
The newly established 11-member council will be chaired by Prof. Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem (OFR), who also serves as the pro-chancellor, while His Royal Highness the Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Ismail Yahya Alebiosu, will take on the role of Chancellor.
Governor Abdulrasaq emphasized the necessity of KWSUED, describing it as a “child of necessity to position Kwara and its people for a sustainable future in the sphere of education and related disciplines.”
He expressed confidence in the capabilities of the council, highlighting the impressive caliber of its members, which includes intellectuals, administrators, and statesmen.
“I am confident that they will midwife a seamless transition and build a new university of education that will be the envy of all,” he added.
In his address, the governor urged the council members to maintain high standards from the outset, stressing the importance of financial prudence. “As the pioneer Governing Council, I urged members to raise the bar from the beginning and resist the pressures to make the school another centre for unaffordable wage bill through needless jobs. The school should be run in a way that it does not become another burden on the scarce resources of government,” he cautioned.
Concluding his remarks, Governor Abdulrasaq expressed his trust in the council’s ability to transform KWSUED into a beacon of excellence. “I trust the Council to make KWSUED a centre of excellence, research, and academic discipline in pursuit of higher ideals,” he asserted.
The inauguration of the Governing Council is seen as a promising step towards fostering an environment of academic rigor and innovation in Kwara State, with stakeholders eager to witness the institution’s positive impact on education in the region.
