Ilorin Women Development Centre Celebrates Third Cohort Graduation

On Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024, the Kwara State University Centre for Women Development and Entrepreneurship in Akerebiata, Ilorin, proudly celebrated the graduation of its third cohort, comprising fifteen determined women who have completed their training.

The event marked a significant milestone as the graduates received certificates and essential empowerment tools to aid their journey toward self-sufficiency and community impact.

During the ceremony, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, urged the graduates to embrace their roles as ambassadors for both the institution and their communities.

He emphasized the importance of using the knowledge and resources gained during their training to foster personal and societal advancement, stating, “You are expected to utilize the knowledge and resources to advance yourselves and society.”

The Vice-Chancellor elaborated on the Centre’s mission to equip women with vital vocational skills that promote self-reliance and job creation within their communities. He highlighted that while the Akerebiata Centre was the first of its kind established by the university, two additional centres have since been launched in other senatorial districts. Furthermore, plans for the establishment of a fourth centre are currently underway. In an exciting development, Professor Jimoh announced an increase in the number of graduates per cohort from 15 to 20 in the future.

Professor Mubaraq Sanni, the Chairman of the Committee for the Centres for Women Development, also addressed the enthusiastic graduates, encouraging them to make the most of the opportunity presented to them. He implored, “Utilize the opportunity given to you.”

The graduation ceremony was marked by the presentation of certificates along with valuable tools, including industrial sewing machines and Android phones designed for e-marketing their products. In recognition of exceptional performance, three graduates were awarded cash prizes and certificates of excellence for their discipline, enterprise, and impact throughout the training period.

This event not only symbolizes the culmination of hard work and dedication but also underscores the commitment of the Kwara State University to empower women and foster economic growth within the region.
