Grateful Grannies Development Initiative Expresses Deep Concern Over Economic Situations in Nigeria and Calls for Peaceful Dialogue

PRESS RELEASE

Date: Saturday August 10, 2024

The Grateful Grannies Development Initiative, an organisation representing the voices and concerns of grandmothers across Nigeria, is issuing this press release to address the pressing economic challenges currently facing our nation.

Grateful Grannies Development Initiative recognises the profound impact these economic hardships are having, particularly on families with young children, and wishes to draw attention to the severe difficulties being experienced.

GGDI is deeply troubled by the current economic situation in Nigeria. The rising cost of living, unemployment, and inflation are severely affecting the well-being of families, especially those with young children. The economic strain is leading to increased hardship, with many struggling to afford basic necessities such as food, healthcare, and education.

We are particularly concerned about the long-term implications of these economic challenges on the development and future prospects of young children.

In light of the recent unrest and violent protests, the Grateful Grannies Development Initiative earnestly appeals to all stakeholders, including the youth, to prioritise dialogue over destruction.

We believe that constructive dialogue is the most effective means of addressing grievances and finding sustainable solutions to the challenges facing our society. Violent protests not only exacerbate the existing economic difficulties but also jeopardise the safety and security of all citizens, including vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.

The Grateful Grannies Development Initiative calls on the government, civil society organisations, and all stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue aimed at resolving the economic issues and alleviating the suffering of families.

We urge the government to implement policies that will stimulate economic growth, create job opportunities, and provide social safety nets for the most vulnerable populations.

Furthermore, the Grateful Grannies Development Initiative encourages the youth to channel their energy and passion into constructive activities that promote peace, unity, and development.

We stand ready to support any initiative that seeks to foster dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts.

The Grateful Grannies Development Initiative remains committed to advocating for the well-being of all Nigerians, particularly the most vulnerable groups. It is believed that through collective effort, constructive dialogue, and a commitment to non-violence, it is possible to overcome the current economic challenges and build a brighter future for all.
