FUTA Alumnus Raymond Aderoju Wins American Scholarship

Raymond Aderoju, a distinguished alumnus of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), has embarked on a new academic adventure at the University of Georgia in Athens, USA.

Aderoju, who graduated as the best student in the Department of Applied Geology in 2021, has been awarded a full-ride scholarship to pursue his Master’s degree.

“I am excited to announce that I have embarked on a new academic journey as a graduate student in the Department of Geology at the University of Georgia, USA. This new chapter builds on the solid foundation I received from my alma mater, Federal University of Technology Akure, where I graduated last year as the top student in the Department of Geology,” Aderoju expressed, reflecting on his impressive academic journey.

Looking back on his undergraduate years, Aderoju takes pride in the accolades he has received, including the University Prize for the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Applied Geology, Dr. Olusegun Agagu’s Prize for the Best Graduating Student in Geology, Funmi Robert Ebuwonjumi’s Prize for the Overall Best Student in the Department of Geology, and the Professor Adegoke Prize for the Best Student in Petroleum Geology (AGY403).

“These accomplishments were made possible by the education and upbringing I received at FUTA, which has shaped me into the person I am today. I am committed to building on this legacy of excellence as I take on new challenges at the University of Georgia,” he added. Gratitude filled Aderoju’s voice as he acknowledged the key figures in his academic journey. “I owe a great deal of my success to Dr. Olufemi (Femi) N. Fajolu (DBA) whose support has been a constant source of motivation. His assistance, wise counsel, and the gifts to celebrate my academic milestones have made all the difference. I am deeply grateful for everything you’ve done, sir.”

He also expressed heartfelt appreciation for his lecturers: “I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my lecturers, Dr. Adeshina Adisa, Dr. Sunday Daramola, and Emmanuel Igonor among others, who were not just educators but also mentors and father figures. Your guidance and support have been invaluable, and I am blessed to have learned from you.” Aderoju didn’t forget to acknowledge his peers who supported him through the application process: “To my mentors and friends who have been pillars of support throughout the application process, I am profoundly thankful for your guidance and encouragement.”

He concluded with a special shout-out to his close friends: “Special shout out to my guyest guys Moses Falowo Olagboye Olasunkanmi, Ayo Oyeniyi, Adeola Karimot Bolarinwa, Afolabi Ayomide, Amuta Michelle Vivian, Olaniyi Anisere, who stood by me through thick and thin. You guys are simply the best ☺️ 😊.”

“From my humble beginnings in Iseyin, Oyo State, to the University of Georgia, this journey has been nothing short of incredible. I am eager to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead and am committed to making a meaningful impact in all my future endeavors,” Aderoju concluded, embodying the spirit of aspiration and determination.
