FUNAAB Fosters Community Partnership

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has welcomed a delegation from the surrounding villages during a Courtesy Visit on August 30, 2024.

Led by Chief Mahdiu Sabitu Iredele, the Area Baale of Isolu, Emere, and Atadi, the meeting took place at the university’s Green Chamber and was focused on fostering peaceful coexistence and improving security between the institution and its host communities.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde opened the meeting by underscoring the importance of collaboration with local communities.

He stated, “We need more enhanced security measures to ensure growth and development,” emphasizing the university’s commitment to working closely with community leaders.

Prof. Kehinde further assured the visiting delegation of mutual cooperation and encouraged open lines of communication, inviting them to reach out whenever necessary.

“You are welcome to visit my office anytime,” he added, highlighting the importance of ongoing dialogue.

In response, Chief Mahdiu Iredele expressed his community’s readiness to partner with FUNAAB in enhancing security measures.

“All hands are on deck by each village and adjoining communities to checkmate crimes and other vices,” he affirmed. Iredele also took the opportunity to express gratitude for the university’s contributions to the development of Isolu, Emere, and Atadi, noting, “The villages would also like to benefit from the University, particularly in the areas of admission for our sons and daughters who meet the necessary requirements.”

The meeting was attended by key university officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kola Adebayo; Ag. Registrar, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Dawodu; representative of the University Librarian, Dr. Idayat Agboola; and Mr. Moses Ayanda from the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, alongside other community leaders such as Chief Sunday Alao Oluyomi and Chief Ganiyu Akinsanya.

This Courtesy Visit marks a pivotal step towards strengthening the bond between FUNAAB and its host communities, laying the foundation for a future characterized by mutual respect, understanding, and collaborative growth.
