FUBK gets Four Professors, Two Readers

The Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) has officially promoted four distinguished faculty members to the rank of professor and two others to associate professor (reader) status.

This decision was made during the university’s 27th governing council meeting, held on August 12, 2024, under the leadership of Pro-Chancellor Ali Abubakar-Jatau.

The promotions, as outlined in a statement released by the university on Friday, follow rigorous evaluations by external assessors alongside recommendations from the Senior Staff Appointment and Promotion Committee (SSAPC).

The newly minted professors include Abdullahi Garba-Kangiwa, an expert in Criminology and the deputy dean of the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences; Acheoah John-Emike, a specialist in Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis, who previously served as the Head of the European Languages Department; Zuni Aminu, notable for his work in Social Geomorphology and Environmental Management, and Murano Muniru, an authority in Applied Linguistics and the founding head of the European Languages Department.

The university also recognized the accomplishments of Dr. Umar Faruk-Mohammed from the Chemistry Department and Ologe Oluwatoyin from the Department of Applied Geophysics, promoting them to the rank of associate professors.

The council’s decision also included the elevation of nine other academic staff to senior lecturer positions, while 17 senior non-teaching staff members received promotions to various administrative ranks, including deputy registrar and principal assistant registrar.

These promotions will take effect retroactively from January 2023 for the faculty members and will be implemented from January 2024 for the administrative staff.
