Ekiti State Strengthens Commitment to Education, Out-of-School Children

The Ekiti State Government, under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has reinforced its dedication to ensuring that no child in the state remains out of school.

This commitment was highlighted by Prof. Femi Akinwumi, Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, during a recent event in Ado Ekiti.

Addressing the inauguration of new local government branch chairmen of the Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) in Ekiti State, Prof. Akinwumi emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to its free and compulsory education policy.

He stated, “The Oyebanji administration is committed to the free and compulsory education policy of the state government and the efforts to ensure the reduction of out-of-school children to zero. Programmes and policies of the government are in this direction and to improve the quality of teaching and learning outcomes.”

The administration’s comprehensive approach includes enhancing infrastructure, providing instructional materials, and ensuring regular salary payments, which collectively foster a conducive learning environment. Additionally, the government supports the professional growth of teachers through training and retraining programs, and offers incentives such as car and housing loans.

Akinwumi called on the head teachers to support these initiatives by ensuring that no child is left out of school. He warned against the collection of illegal fees from pupils, emphasizing that violations would attract sanctions.

Reflecting on the achievements of the Oyebanji administration, Akinwumi noted the elongation of service for primary school teachers who are university graduates to grade level 16, among other benefits. He also expressed gratitude to the outgoing AOPSHON executives for their dedication and urged the newly elected chairmen to build on their predecessors’ achievements.

Echoing this sentiment, Olusola Ajiborode, the state AOPSHON Chairman, commended the state government for prioritizing teacher welfare, thereby enhancing the quality of education in Ekiti State.
