Education District IV Holds 20th Merit Award to Honour Outstanding Achievements

The Lagos State Education District IV recently held its 20th Merit Award and Honours Day, a celebration that brought together the brightest stars in education—teachers, staff, and students—whose exceptional contributions have propelled the district to new heights.

This event took place at the Government College Hall in Eric Moore, Surulere, and was attended by distinguished personalities in the education sector, alongside royal fathers and religious leaders from the district zones.

Hon. Eniola Opeyemi, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic and Secondary Education, lauded the awardees for standing out amongst their peers.

He highlighted the pivotal role of educators and administrators in shaping the future of Lagos State and Nigeria. He also reaffirmed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s unwavering commitment to education, describing him as “Teacher-friendly” and proudly identifying with the teaching profession himself.

Olusegun Osinaike, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District IV, set the tone for the day with his enthusiastic opening remarks.

He welcomed the attendees with warmth and applauded the awardees for their dedication and perseverance, assuring that the district will continue to honour their hard work.

Osinaike extended heartfelt gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his consistent efforts in recruiting and replacing staff, asserting that the governor’s passion for education ensures the best for both teachers and students.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of a recognition award to Osinaike by the Gbaja Girls Old Students and the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Surulere Zone, in acknowledgment of his exemplary leadership.

The award ceremony continued with accolades for top performers: Mrs. Oyefeso Adenike of Ghaja Girls Senior High School received the Best Principal and Best School Award, while Mrs. Olokodana Elizabeth Titilayo of Government College Junior was honored in the junior category. The Best Teacher in the Senior category went to Mr. Oyewale Wasiu Abioye from Wesley Girls Senior, and Dr. Sule Peace was named Best Teacher in the Junior category from Akoka Junior High School.

Other principals, vice principals, teachers, and students were honoured for their remarkable achievements in representing the district in state and international competitions, often bringing home the top prizes.
