Education District 2 Wins Four Awards at Lagos Secondary Schools Sanitation Competition 2024

Education District 2 has won four out of six awards at the Lagos State Secondary Schools Sanitation Competition 2024.

This impressive feat highlights the commitment of the district to promoting sanitation, hygiene, and environmental education under the visionary leadership of Mrs. Adekanye Anike.

Out of thirty competing public secondary schools from across Lagos, Education District 2 secured multiple top honours.

Eva Adelaja Girls Junior Secondary School, Somolu, emerged as the star of the competition, winning two major awards in the “Sanitation and Hygiene Best Practices” and “Upcycling and Recycling Best School” categories within the Model Schools division.

Civil Service Senior Model College, Igbogbo, followed closely, earning the 2nd Runner-Up spot in “Sanitation and Hygiene Best Practices” for the Model Schools category, while Igbobi Junior High School took the same position in the Day School category.

The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Adekanye, praised the performance of district.

She attributed their success to an unwavering focus on cleanliness and sustainable practices.

“The district’s ability to win four out of six possible awards is not only a win for the students and staff but also a proud moment for Lagos State Education,” Adekanye said.

She emphasized the significance of the 2024 competition, which she described as a powerful testament to Education District 2’s leadership in environmental advocacy. According to Adekanye, the commitment of the schools to hygiene best practices and the eco-conscious culture nurtured within the district played a pivotal role in securing the awards.

Adekanye extended heartfelt thanks to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his visionary leadership, saying, “the governor’s developmental programmes have made it possible for schools in Lagos State, especially in Education District 2, to excel in such competitions.”

She highlighted how the T.H.E.M.E.S PLUS Agenda has positively impacted the quality of education across the state, particularly in areas like sanitation and environmental sustainability.

She further commended the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, and all education stakeholders for their efforts in making the event a success.

She acknowledged the contributions of teachers, school administrators, and parents, noting that their collective dedication to excellence enabled the district to stand out in the competition.
