Edo University launches CNG conversion training for engineering students

Edo University, Uzairue, is set to revolutionize the educational landscape for its engineering students by mandating a year-long industrial training program focused on converting fuel vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

This initiative aims to equip students in chemical and mechanical engineering with essential skills that align with modern energy solutions.

During the official launch of the initiative, Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Dawood O. Egbefo emphasized the importance of this program, stating that it is designed to alleviate the burden of fuel costs, enhance access to affordable transportation, and ultimately contribute to job creation and economic growth.

In a statement released by the university on Sunday in Benin, Prof. Egbefo noted, “The move was to reduce the burden of fuel cost, increased access to affordable transportation, job creation and economic growth.”

He further highlighted the environmental impact of the program, explaining that it will help reduce carbon emissions and alleviate poverty, a vision that aligns with the goals of the university’s visitor, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The initiative is being launched in collaboration with several key partners, including the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO), the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, and the Edo Ministry of Mining and Energy.

Prof. Egbefo expressed his optimism about the partnership, stating, “We are confident this strategic partnership will yield lasting benefits for our communities, the nation, and pave the way for a more sustainable future.”

In addition to its focus on sustainability and innovation, the university prides itself on its commitment to providing a conducive learning environment. “The initiative demonstrates the university’s commitment to innovation, social responsibility, collaboration with government and industry partners. This and many more innovations we offer, is why Edo University is the best destination for students striving for academic excellence,” he asserted.

Moreover, the Acting Vice Chancellor assured prospective students and their families that Edo University remains dedicated to uninterrupted academic pursuits: “We don’t go on strike. The university is open for everyone for academic pursuit. Our needs and expectations are met before we request,” he concluded.
