Becoming The You In You

I trust you are doing great. I know you are comfortable staying alone enjoying the comfort of your own companion. Yes I know you think you can do better than everyone. I understand that you acknowledge that you are gifted and supernaturally talented. I look into your eyes and see how you look at the performance of your contemporaries and say to yourself “I can do better than them” . You write in your room and sing in your bathroom and you know you are a star waiting to shine but……..?

Hmmmm the BUT. That is the bone of contention. You are shy, you are a perfectionist. You can’t stand people mocking or laughing at you for not performing as good as they expected. You want to get it all right before letting it out.  I see you reminiscing on the last time you went on stage. How that the stage fright messed up your presentation. How you beat yourself up and swore never to go up there anymore ….  Well beautiful reasons they are but let me take you through a story.

Kathrine is a beautiful, Intelligent, highly gifted young lady. She performed tremendously well all through her education. However, just like most Nigerian youths, she was faced with the challenge of making a living from her talents rather than depending on her certificate. She knew she was talented in music but the thought of not performing well made her a bathroom singer. As a typical African, she left everything in the hands of God. A day came when she was called upon to lead the praise and worship session in church. “This must be a joke” she said to herself but in order not to annoy the priest, she took a giant stride. In a situation that seemed as though her sweat pores we perforated, Kathrine’s clothes were drenched in her own sweat. She sang well to the cheering and commendment of the congregation. Today, Katherine is a well known singer in her world.

Dear Introvert, I know you are still with me. Thanks for reading till this point. Katherine in our story excelled in music because she broke out of her COMFORT ZONE. You do not have to do only that which you are comfortable and perfect at. Try out new things. Your subconscious self will want to tell you that you would be mocked. How would you know the reaction of your audience when you never tried?  Even when you are mocked, laughed at or even called names, keep trying. Do not see failure as a call to quit rather as an opportunity to do better. It is a stepping stone to a greater tomorrow. You know the popular saying ” Rome was not built in a day” hence there is a need to keep pushing. Your innate gifts, talents and potentials would only be seen when you show the world what you’ve got.

Dear Introvert, as I close this discuss, I want you to always Know that Nobody Will Say YOUR ARE if You Do Not Say I AM.  You are gifted so let the world see your gifts.
