On Saturday, December 7, 2024, Kano City witnessed an inspiring gathering of educators at the Educators 360 Hangout, held at the Kano State Library.
Hosted by Ogechi Olumese, Lead Consultant at Luminate 360 Edu., the event aimed to foster a community of forward-thinking teachers ready to embrace AI and technology.
Olumese outlined the vision, “To build a community of educators who… use these tools to enhance their teaching, expand their horizons, and boost their income despite economic challenges.”
Sessions included Olumese’s talk on Remote Work Opportunities for Teachers and Maryam Salihu Sulaiman’s Enhancing Teaching with AI, where tools like Teachyapp, Meta AI, ChatGPT, and Quizizz were introduced. Educators engaged in a lively Quizizz app demo, making learning interactive and fun.
Though Ronke Akinyemi’s session on Empowering Teachers’ Finances was rescheduled, Grace Amoka’s video on Making and Selling Digital Products Using Canva kept the momentum going. Practical tech demos showcased AI-driven lesson planning, while a networking session encouraged collaboration.
A reflective coaching segment using the “Wheel of Life” template wrapped up the day, providing strategies for achieving balance. The event closed with group photos and heartfelt discussions, leaving teachers motivated and eager for future innovations.
The Educators 360 Hangout was conceived in response to the growing need for Nigerian teachers to adapt to a rapidly changing educational environment. With challenges such as limited resources, fluctuating economic conditions, and the increasing relevance of digital tools, educators have been seeking ways to remain effective and competitive. Technology-driven teaching methods, AI tools, and remote work opportunities are becoming essential components for modern educators.
In recent years, Nigeria’s education system has faced hurdles, including infrastructural deficits, teacher shortages, and economic constraints, especially in northern Nigeria.
Events like the Educators 360 Hangout in Kano city provide a crucial platform for knowledge-sharing, skill-building, and networking, equipping teachers to overcome these challenges, especially in the Northern Nigerian region where the needs are pressing.
