AU Teacher Prize Winner Adeeko Champions Yoruba Tech Tutorials for Inclusive Learning

Mr. Olalekan Adeeko, co-founder of TedPrime Hub and the 2020 African Union Teacher Prize winner, is revolutionizing technology education across Africa by offering tech tutorials in Yoruba, an indigenous language of South-West Nigeria.

His approach brings complex fields like data analysis and artificial intelligence within reach of those who might otherwise be excluded from tech learning due to language barriers.

In a bold step toward democratizing digital skills, Adeeko’s tutorials cover practical topics such as Excel, AI tools, and data literacy, offering vital skills in a language accessible to Yoruba-speaking communities. His dedication to inclusivity has won him a growing online following and earned him the prestigious Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award, recognizing his contributions to accessible tech education.

Adeeko, a computer science graduate from Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, explains, “The goal is to make technology accessible to everyone, regardless of the language of communication.”

He adds, “By teaching in Yoruba, I’m able to reach those who might struggle with English-based resources, empowering them to use tech in their everyday lives.”

His groundbreaking content resonates deeply across Nigeria and beyond, gaining him over 100,000 followers on social media. Adeeko’s tutorials have become a go-to resource, not only for individual learners but also for educators and professionals looking to integrate tech into their own fields. His success demonstrates the potential for indigenous languages to drive greater digital literacy and engagement.

Reflecting on his MVP award, Adeeko stated, “For me, the MVP award is a testament to the power of inclusive education. When people can learn in their native language, they gain confidence and can more easily grasp complex concepts like AI and data analysis.”

By providing culturally relevant tech content, Adeeko is part of a broader movement to make digital education accessible to all, especially in underserved communities. His Yoruba tutorials showcase how indigenous languages can break down barriers in the tech world, equipping more people to thrive in the digital economy.

“It’s not just about learning technology; it’s about empowering people to use it to solve real problems in their communities,” Adeeko said. With his vision focused on inclusivity, Adeeko aims to ensure that the digital revolution embraces everyone, including those traditionally excluded due to language barriers across Africa.
