FUTA Celebrates Academic Excellence as 519 Students Achieve First Class Honors in Record-Setting Convocation

Not less than 519 students from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), have earned First Class degrees over the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions.

This achievement was celebrated during a pre-convocation press conference, where Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adenike Oladiji expressed her pride in the institution’s academic excellence and its strides in higher education.

Prof. Oladiji shared that a total of 6,404 students will be receiving first degrees, while an additional 960 students are set to be awarded postgraduate degrees. Recognizing the broader academic achievements, she noted that 3,408 students attained Second Class (Upper Division), 2,139 secured Second Class (Lower Division), and 339 were awarded Third Class degrees.

Reflecting on the quality of FUTA’s programs, Prof. Oladiji confirmed the university’s high academic standards: “There are currently 59 academic programmes in the University, and none has been denied accreditation. The University continues to reassess its academic programmes for global relevance and competitiveness.”

She emphasized the university’s progress under her administration, noting substantial developments in campus infrastructure that enhance the educational experience and foster innovation.

“Under the current administration in the university, significant advancement has been recorded in physical and infrastructural development. The projects demonstrate the administration’s commitment to creating a conducive learning environment, fostering innovation, and enhancing the overall university experience,” Prof. Oladiji remarked.

Looking toward the future, she expressed her optimism for continued growth and solutions to longstanding challenges, such as energy constraints.

“I have no doubt that we have every cause to look forward to a brighter and more inspiring second half of my vice-chancellorship. A lot of interactions have elicited our core challenges and how we could address them, especially the energy challenge.”

Prof. Oladiji concluded on a hopeful note, affirming her commitment to elevating FUTA’s standing in the academic world. “I am very optimistic that with a very stable and convivial industrial ambiance, we shall take FUTA to higher heights.”
