Could you please introduce yourself?
My name is Joshua Adegoke, and I am an alumnus of the 2023/2024 academic session of Landmark College, Ikorodu.
Can you tell us about the specific contributions or achievements that led to your receiving the Chairman’s Award? What were you most proud of?
I received the Chairman’s Award due to my academic performance, achieving A1 in six subjects in my WAEC examinations and A1 in five subjects in the NECO examinations. I am most proud of the hard work and commitment that led to these results, and I acknowledge the unyielding support of God, my friends, and family throughout this journey.
How did you feel when you were informed that you had won the award? What was your initial reaction?
When I was informed that I had won the award, my heart raced with excitement. Initially, I felt anxious as I awaited my results while others celebrated theirs, but once I saw my WAEC result, I leapt for joy, realizing I had qualified for the Chairman’s Award, which had not been awarded in a long time.
What challenges did you face while working towards this achievement, and how did you overcome them?
One of the significant challenges I faced was in Physics, which I struggled with compared to my other subjects. While preparing for my UTME, I recognized my weakness and tackled it by solving numerous past questions and studying extensively. In the end, I overcame this challenge, and Physics became one of my strong subjects.
How do you believe this award reflects your values and the impact you want to make in your school or community?
This award reflects my belief that no one should monopolize the title of “best.” It signifies the impact of hard work and determination over mere talent. I want to inspire my peers to realize that relentless effort can lead to success, regardless of their initial abilities.
Who or what inspired you during your journey to earn the Chairman’s Award, and how did that influence your efforts?
My friends were a major source of inspiration during my journey to earn the Chairman’s Award. Their dedication motivated me to push myself further, and I admired their efforts, knowing that some of them were also striving for the same recognition.
What advice would you give to fellow students who aspire to achieve similar recognition in the future?
My advice for fellow students aspiring to achieve similar recognition is to believe in themselves and their capabilities. No one is inherently entitled to success; it’s about working hard and being relentless in pursuing your goals. If you find yourself at a disadvantage in talent, let hard work be your defining factor.
Looking ahead, how do you plan to build on this achievement and continue making a positive impact in your school or community?
As I move forward, I plan to intensify my efforts in my tertiary education and offer assistance to students facing challenges in their academic pursuits. I aim to be a source of support and encouragement for those who need it.
